Beowulf Kills Grendel
It was late in the night when out from the marsh, Grendel came, hoping to kill anyone that he could catch on his trip to Harot. He would not have gone to Harot that night if he knew what was waiting for him. For Beowulf was waiting for him that night, the night that Grendel would die, and the terror that lasted twelve years, would finally end. When Grendel arrived at the castle, he journeyed straight to the door, for he was fearless of what was on the other side, as though it was another normal night of killing for him. He tore the door's iron fastners off the door and broke it down. After braking into the camp, Grendel snatched up the first Geat he came to and ripped apart. Grendel proceded to drink the soldiers blood and then eat him whole. Twas Grendel's next action that brought his death upon him, for he picked up Beowulf, who in-turn seized Grendel's claws and bent them. Grendel, according to the other warriors, tried to flee from the battle, but was quite unsuccessful in doing so seeing as he died just moments later. Beowulf, the mighty protector of men they now call the warrior, held onto to Grendel until finally, at battles end, Beowulf tore Grendel's are away from its master. In the morning, after the madness had ended, the hall filled with people wanting to find out who had won that treacherous battle, and the outcome was obvious, hanging from the rafters was Grendel's arm. Beowulf said "let me live in greatness and courage, or here be my death"(pg 31 line 367-369) now the people are retelling Beowulf's bravery to anyone who listens , and Beowulf is their hero.
